Gulf failing to attract 'nature' tourism

This last decade has seen the rise and rise of the "responsible traveler". The term was coined in the 1990s to describe tourists who choose holidays that keep environmental and cultural impact to a minimum, support local conservation and social projects and enable local people to earn a fairer share of tourism income. And the stakes are not insignificant: worldwide, tourism generates receipts of $733 billion a year (2006) and employs eight per cent of the global workforce.
